The issue features our 2017 HIA Kitchen Design entry kitchen. This seamless symmetrical kitchen was a collaboration with TK Design. The brief centered around a busy family of 7, a hive of meal preparation, eating, homework, work and to house a laundry overflow. There were a lot of elements to fit into a small space. The home had a hallway door in the middle of the open space so it was important to connect the two areas to create a large open plan area. A streamlined aesthetic was extremely important to the client so level horizontal lines were maintained. We also used sharknose finger-pull on all drawers to maintain minimalism.
A work/homework station was incorporated into the kitchen and the use of the same durable, sustainable but stylish materials joined the two areas. There was also the need for a second large island and an ironing area to be another seamless addition.
The finishes used create a modern, stylish space that will last for many years. They highlight the many function zones and ensure that it is an impressive visual space.
